About Me

Hi, I am Paola an historical seamstress and pattern maker.

Butterfly Garments is the result of my love for historical fashion and my dedication to recreating these garments in the most artisanal way possible for me. As a Victorian and Edwardian fashion addicted I take part in many historical events in my town, where I expecially dress in Belle Epoque style.

I love to study antique fashion from experts books, museums and antique pieces. In my Tiktok Account you may find various videos of my antique collection and of books that I study and recommend. The videos are in my native language, Italian, but the app usually translates the subtitles in English... You can also follow me there and on my Instagram account to stay updated on the new costumes that I make, their work in progress and the new Sewing Patterns I publish.

As a seamstress I have studied years ago at a local fashion school, receiving two official diplomas as a modern pattern maker and female dressmaker, while working with local ateliers. After a while I began to take interest in historical fashion and began to study more and more texts about it. Now I have a big library full of various historical fashion, jewelry and accessories books. And I have a small antique collection that I expand day by day.

As such I love to study my antique pieces or garments from other collections and museums, to make my own reproduction pieces.  I like to I put inside my patterns personal interpretations and my brand designs of decorations and shapes. I try to stay the most historical accurate as possible, but each pattern is different and has a different path in creating it: if you follow my work in progresses you may find videos of the ideas, studies and sketches that are the core each pattern. And please always read each description under each listing to know more about its characteristics and measurements!

You may follow me and see other of my past works on my Facebook Page, Tiktok and Instagram.
